Hello,
I have an REB 1100. I don't use it that often, and I recently got it
out. After charging, which it did just fine, it told me that the
memory was corrupted and suggested that I let it repair itself. I hit
ok, at which point the ebook froze up and has not worked since. It
will turn on and off, but the screen is just a grid of lines. The
reset button does not help.
I called RCA, but they said "There is nothing we can do."
Can someone help me? Can the ebook be formatted using the usb system
and a dos command or something? Is there something that I'm
overlooking?
Thanks, Josh

Josh,

Hmm.. doesn't sound good. You might want to try doing a memory wash as
described here:
http://www.chromakinetics.com/REB1200/REB1100.htm

You may also want to Google on REB 1100 to see if there are any other
troubleshooting suggestions.

Good luck,

Bert

I don't think there's much you can do to resurrect a grid-screened
REB-1100 without considerable technical assistance -- most of which
doesn't exist anymore.

Try visiting http://www.gemstar-ebook.com/ and see about getting your
device replaced with a GEB-1150, which can then be used to read new
content from http://www.ebookwise.com/ and http://www.filamentbooks.com/

How do I have my device replaced or repaired?

For all issues related to the use and operation of your eBook device,
please call 1-602-744-6046, or send an email to
***@gemstar-ebook.com. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday,
8 AM to 7 PM Central time.

What happens if my device is out-of-warranty and fails?

To permit you to enjoy your purchased content even if your
out-of-warranty device should fail, we intend to provide a replacement
device from our existing inventory of new devices for so long as
supplies last during the period our servers are in operation. Such
replacements will be available to all users (including REB, Rocket, and
SoftBook users), not just those who purchased their devices from us. In
appreciation of your support, any replacements will be made available at
no charge to you other than a $30 shipping and handling fee. That fee
also covers the shipping cost required to return your broken device to
us. Due to logistical constraints, we can not process orders from
outside the United States or Canada.
