Discussion:
Do they exist at all? (E-Book hardware for PDF)

Hello people,

I have been researching a subject of E-Book devices for about a week.
In the process I found some articles and reviews. Yet, nobody seems to
be able to answer a simple question...

I have a library of E-Books in PDF format. (I think TXT and HTML is
not the most common format today). So can I? How can I? And which
E-Book device can allow me to? ...read PDF e-books...

P.S. Also, does anyone know of other good review sources (comparison
based) and decent stores (online, since I live in Canada).

Thank you very much in advance.

Acrobat Reader is available for all devices based on Palm OS, Pocket
PC and Symbian OS:

but I guess you're thinking of aome kind of dedicated E-book reader ?

Not sure I really understand. I've been reading eBooks on my Palm for
several years. (I mostly use Palm's eReader software, due to availability of
books, but I have a few pdf files as well.)

Hi:

Adobe has a plam version of the PDF reader that I use occasionally.
It is available free on their website and converts normal pdf files to
files that can be read by the Palm Adobe reader on a Palm.
however
I use linux so when I want to read a book made up of text on my palm
that has been in PDF format I run pdf2ps, ps2ascii and then publish it
to pdb using Pyrite Publisher.

The basic idea is to make the data easily available on my palm.
Publishing a PDF with images to a pdb is much more difficult so I use
the Adobe Palm reader for those.

Hope this helps.

Well, I did try this Adobe software for my Palm IIIxe. And I've
managed to upload a few E-Books. The outcome is terrible. It's not
readable. I either get a message "The document is not a tagged PDF" or
"This document has been secured via encryption" and even if I manage
to upload them, they are simply not readable. Also, I don't find a
triple conversion to be an easy solution. My question is this...

Does E-Book Reader Device for PDF exist at all? (Other then a
Notebook).
Else, what is an easy solution to the problem (closest device)

This conversation is quite old by now, but I, as others mentioned
before, have been using adobe reader in my palm for quite some time.
The tagged PDF problem is quite common, but usually is not big
problem, EXCEPT for pdf files with two columns that begin a page with
something (in my case usually tables) using both of them. In that case,
the specific page has usually a big problem of mixing the columns,
which can make it unreadable.
Otherwise, that usually is not a problem.
As for the encryption problem, that may be bigger.
As far as I know, Adobe has not launched a hardware device such as what
you are looking for.

The only reason it's terrible is that your using a extremly ancient device.
I haven't even seen a Palm IIIxe used in years. Get a modern Palm or WinCE
device and you will have no problem.
